School District Eliminates Regular Home to School Buses

Transportation Update:

2012-13 School Year Transportation Elimination

As you are aware, we are entrenched in very difficult budgetary times.  With continued fiscal uncertainty and the need for further reductions, the Evergreen School District will eliminate regular home to school transportation for the 2012-2013 school year.  Transportation service will continue for students with special needs and will be offered as mandated by law.

The District has been able to preserve the transportation program the past few years by using federal one-time funds.  Unfortunately, in fiscal year 2012-2013 these funds will no longer be available.  Because the district only receives $300,000 in revenue to fund transportation service, an expense of $1.7 million can no longer be financially supported.

We are aware that there will be increased traffic at several of our schools. Principals will be working with their communities to develop plans to help alleviate congestion and facilitate safe routes to school.

It is recommended that parents begin planning.  Several Evergreen neighborhoods have already begun to form carpools and walking school buses.  If you have some ideas about how to make this transition easier at your school site, please contact your school principal.

Student Study Team

Silver Oak School holds weekly meetings regarding the progress of identified students.  The referring teacher, resource specialist, psychologist, speech and language specialist, English Language Development Specialist, and the principal review the student’s progress with the parents to develop a plan that will lead to the success of each child referred.

Pupil Services

The goal of the Pupil Services Department is to provide resources and support services to students at risk throughout the Evergreen School District to enable them to participate fully in the educational process. For more information on the resources available to parents and families please visit Evergreen School District's Pupil Services webpage.
